My Review of the Google Cloud Professional Cloud Database Engineer BETA Exam

Last week I sat the brand new Google Cloud Professional Cloud Database Engineer BETA exam. As I love the challenge of these Beta exams, and the fact that it was the first of its kind for GCP, I decided to book right away and gave myself 5 days before sitting it.

My high-level thoughts on this exam are as follows:

  • A really high-quality exam that sits well with the rest of their exams.
  • A hard test of skills on deploying, monitoring, and migrating databases both on-premises, in cloud, and in hybrid environments.
  • This was not just another database exam that just covered database features and capabilities, but more real-life scenarios that most who work with databases would encounter in their day-to-day job.

Exam Preparation

I didn’t spend a lot of time preparing and so I went through all the database options using Priyanka’s sketch notes, database architecture in the Cloud Architecture Center as well as the database sections of my Professional Cloud Architect course (now available on ExamPro).

Exam Structure

The exam itself was 4 hours long, with 120 questions, and the question quality was incredibly good. The questions…
